Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Kitty Ho is an artist who specializes in painting and photography. Her work ceaselessly breaks the system of classification between media, alternating the traditional definition of painting, sculpture, and photography.

She utilizes methods such as acrylic, airbrush, engraving, and technology to play between realism and abstraction. By integrating technology and lighting into her work, her own expression toward the subject matter is aggravated. Her work embraces a sense of mystery and interrogates the human mentality, state of consciousness, and perception.

My work for the past 5 years has used revealing aspects of my journey of growth and my perception towards society. I have always been curious about the psychological aspect of each individual, and how much of a different mindset they have in comparison to myself when everyone experiences life in a completely different way. Everyone must go through hardships in life in order to grow. I have always imagined that I have the ability to reveal one’s mindset, and through the use of my work of art activate their perception ultimately.

Human thought invariably has a basis in emotions or logic, often seen as forces opposite to each other. How can we know whether to be logical or emotional? Perhaps there simply is no correct way and to choose is to form one’s own perception of the world; thus, the question would become one of unity between thought and emotion. My work of art indicates the unseen,  the heart and brain, parts that are vital to the body, mind, and soul; it may be best, then, for the intangible but important to be made tangible through my work of art.

Meanwhile, the pandemic has drastically changed the means of interaction with others; for many, this has certainly revealed the extent to which technology has replaced face-to-face interaction with a newfound distance. As such, it would not be preposterous to observe that our perception of the world had been warped into nothing more than a hallucination through the confines of technology, and the unexpected pandemic would be the chance for many of us to break through the illusion and rediscover the important things we’ve forgotten.
